In this guide, we'll show you how to upload a local save to your Palworld server, so you don't have to start your game all over again when wanting to play with friends.
Finding Your Local Save Files
To get started, you need to locate your Palworld save files:
- Launch Palworld and select “Start Game” to see your list of worlds.
- Select the world you wish to upload and click the folder icon that can be found down to the left. This action will reveal your world files in their directory. Keep them handy for the next steps.
Uploading Your World
To upload your world to the server, follow these steps:
- First, ensure your server is not running by stopping it via the control panel. Use an FTP client like FileZilla to connect to your server.
- Open the directory /Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0 (it might be given some string of random letters) and open the folder there.
- Delete all the files in this folder to make room for your save files.
- Upload your world files, but make sure to exclude WorldOption.sav.
- Launch the server.
Character Data Wipped On Transfer
The world host’s character data is also completely erased when you upload a locally maintained world to your server. This happens because the dedicated server has assumed the host character role. Why has this happened? There is no known, easy solution (short of delving into obscure player file technicalities) for how to prevent this.
How to Mitigate Data Loss On Your World Save
- Store Important Items: Before uploading, place the host player's items, Pals, and equipment in world storage. This step helps preserve important assets, though experience and progress will still be lost.
